 Census Grant Outreach Worker

The Community Action of St. Louis County (CAASTLC) is seeking a Census Grant Outreach Worker.  We are committed to helping the families and communities of St. Louis County prevent the conditions of poverty for present and future generations.  Our mission is to end poverty.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position, 5 – 5 ½ months in duration.

The Census Grant Outreach Worker will work in the community to educate and encourage households to complete Census registration.  Focus on hard-to-count populations in St. Louis County i.e., communities of color, immigrant and refugee communities, low-income persons, non-English speakers, older persons (60 and older), renters, young persons (18 years old and younger).  Identify and develop Census partnerships throughout the St. Louis community.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Review Census materials, data, tool kits on a national, state and local level. Become a Census expert.
  • Review Census grant and develop outreach activities to achieve all deliverables listed, i.e., lobby displays, information cards, train the trainer workshops, PowerPoint presentations, distribution of flyers, posters and written materials.
  • Conduct series of learning workshops on the Census in the community and at CAASTLC.
  • Coordinate posting of regular social media information on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Linked In and others, including some paid ads. Tailor postings to our target audience.
  • Coordinate print ads, LaTremenda Radio, posters, tear offs and PSAs.
  • Identify specific populations for outreach as identified in the grant i.e., communities of color, immigrant and refugee communities, low-income persons, non-English speakers, older persons (60 and older), renters, young persons (18 years old and younger).
  • Maintain and prepare program reports as required by the grant i.e., details of all events, trainings, media postings, etc.
  • Track services including home visits, community resource outreach and advocacy.
  • Identify and develop partnerships in the community to enhance Census information delivery and to prevent duplication of efforts regarding Census education.
  • Be an active and willing team member to ensure quality service delivery to all customers/families of the Agency and in our community.
  • Ability to meet grant program and reporting deadlines is essential.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Social media posting experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bi-lingual skills a plus
  • Dependability and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of community resources and experience working with low-income population is preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have own transportation and be willing to travel anywhere in St. Louis County.
