Data Entry/Customer Service Clerk

Community Action of St. Louis County (CAASTLC) is seeking a Data Entry/Customer Service Clerk.  We are committed to helping the families and communities of St. Louis County prevent the conditions of poverty for present and future generations.

This position works in a team-based, high-production environment and maintains excellent standards for accurate data entry, in order to expedite the application process for the delivery of LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) services.  Professional contact with customers is required on a regular basis—by phone, email or in person, to complete the application process and explain program criteria.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensures that all data is entered accurately into a variety of databases.
  • Performs detailed screening of applicants to determine eligibility for the program and whether appropriate documentation was presented.
  • Contact customers by phone or email, to obtain missing documentation.
  • Maintain customer service attitude at all times, handling customer issues in a friendly, patient, respectful and professional manner.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries related to energy assistance services, or other programs.
  • Calculates income eligibility from monthly pay stubs and other documents.
  • Maintains high productivity standards.
  • Maintains accurate and complete files for every customer.
  • Communicates orally and in writing with customers, coworkers and management.
  • Maintains sensitive information with integrity.
  • Mail, print, copy, scan and fax LIHEAP transmittals on a daily basis.
  • Represent the Agency at community outreach events, including Resource Fairs, Poverty Simulations, etc.

Requirements include:

  • High school diploma or GED; continued education in Data Processing preferred
  • Prior experience in data entry in a high output, accuracy intensive environment
  • Must have a working knowledge of Windows Operating System, various Microsoft software applications, and various web-based and server-based software applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Good math skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with low-income customers
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature
